The Colours of Greenwich
I designed this project to explore what history is with women from different migrant backgrounds at Creating Ground CIC in Greenwich. Thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund, I facilitated weekly workshops over 6 months and delivered training in how to take ownership of history.

Approach
I first connected with Creating Ground in the summer of 2021 while studying my Masters in Migration and Global Development. After supporting their work in participatory arts for social change for migrant women, I designed a history project thanks to National Lottery Heritage Fund support.
What was special about this project?
In collaboration with the team at Creating Ground, the project used participatory practice to focus on creativity and wellbeing to co-produce history. Members were taught to take ownership of history and think about what it meant for them as individuals. We created a collaborative artwork which is now permanently held in the Living Refugee Archives at the University of East London archive.
The project at a glance
- A collaboration between myself and the team at Creating Ground.
- A new partnership with Paul Dudman and Monna Matharu at the Living Refugee Archive.
- Over 20 women from different migrant backgrounds joined the project, with over 60% being new to heritage and history projects.
- 38 patchworks were created by the women, creatively reflecting their histories
